My favorite coney! The prices are right and the food is simple. Folks are friendly and consistent. Thank goodness this place exists.

I love going to the Coney. I work down the street so I treat myself maybe once a month, so I'm not a regular, but when I walk in they know exactly what I'm going to order (I'm a creature of habit) and they always seem pleased to see everyone who walks through the door. This is a place that thrives on their regulars, and you see all types coming in here to eat.
As I said, I'm a creature of habit so I always go for the grilled cheese with fries (grilled cheese sandwiches are proof God loves us and wants us to be happy). But I've sampled from my friend's plates as well and everything I've ever tried has been fantastic.
This isn't high end food. No bone marrow or truffles here. This is a Coney. But it's the best Coney Island in the city, for my money.

Ready for a pure Hamtramck experience?

You're gonna find it at the Hamtramck Coney. Not only do some of the city's weirdos come out for food here regularly (Tex, Fabiszak, etc.) but the wall is adorned with an Orlowski mural and the prices are hamtramck-appropriate.

Not that regular folks don't come here too- they certainly do for lunches and hungover breakfasts (because they close pretty early). Comparison of this coney to many others is folly- the menu might look the same but they are not the same, at all. The fare you might receive at L. George's down the street is of a different quality and a more standard atmosphere and fry cook environment.

Coffee will come to you in a styrofoam cup. Always. They will ask you if you want cream, and pour it behind the counter. I like this. The waitresses are usually very nice, although they do have a lot of staff turnover. I am not going to speculate on this, though I have heard lots of rumors.

The breakfast menu is simple and good - this is where the HCI shines. I recommend the french toast and the gyro omelette which comes with gyro meat, tomato, and cheese (I get it sans onion). They come with a good portion of hash browns or grits (nice) and toast.

The lunch menu is also good. I had a perfect coney here. Not perfect as in high quality, but in the composition of low quality ingredients. Cheap hot dog (no snap, no natural casing here) cheap bun, cheap chili, fresh white onion and squirts of yellow mustard. I really can't say enough good things about it.

Other than that, the burgers are decent, albeit probably frozen patties. They are better than the burgers at Maine Street, which can be sad. The chili burger is a thing to behold, especially when recovering from a night out in Hamtramck.

It fits the bill for a Coney Island (sort of), it comes with a cheap price tag, and it has its own unique charm. Eat here!

UPDATE: The hash browns at HCI are some of the best, if not THE best, Hash Browns I've ever had. They're crispy on the outside, seasoned perfectly, and hit the spot every time.

The coneys do seem to have a natural casing now! I got an even more perfect coney last time I went. Plenty of snap. Great chili.

The server Krystle has been here now for a few years, and she is excellent. She manages a whole restaurant of tables sometimes. Tip her extra.

Friendliest place around!  Hamtramck Coney serves standard and reliable coney fare for breakfast and lunch.  Great guys serving and behind the counter!
